Coordination Committee 1

The Coordination Committee 1 (CC1) for the Hazardous Chemical Management Program is organized to realize the collaboration between the Japanese side and the Egyptian side to handle the target hazardous chemicals, i.e., Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs), Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH), and Heavy Metals (Cd and Cr), under the project.

 

For all target chemicals, the target area for field work is set in eastern district of Shubra El Kheima in Qaliubea governorate.  The Shubra El Kheima is one of the main industrial area in Greater Cairo Area. The area is also recognized as a hotspot of industrial pollution, where USAID has addressed on lead pollution problem.

 

For this purpose, CC1 aims to achieve that related staff in EEAA and RBOs becomes capable of designating and identifying hazardous substances, compiling the data and information, and assessing their risks through the following activities:

 

1. Establishing the committee among hazards substances departments and stakeholders.

2. Implementing surveys for preparation of inventories and identify potential contaminated sites

3. Implementing On Job Training for sampling and analyzing hazardous chemical substances , mentoring and interpreting of monitoring data and proposing counter measures

4. To share information through coordination committee with other ministries ,institution ,  universities ,etc .related to hazardous chemical substances management.

5. To hold seminars on mentoring of hazardous chemical substances and countermeasures such as best available technologies of handling hazardous chemical substances .

6. To hold a seminar (environmental mentoring of hazardous chemical substances in the Arab countries hosted by Egypt EEAA.

7. To prepare guidelines for hazardous substances management including recommendations to strengthen the institutional system and to identify the risks. 

 

Framework of Program

For each target chemicals (PCBs, PAH, Cd and Cr(IV)), following framework will be adopted under the program.
