Contents Competition for Tahrir Display

Objectives

EEAA (Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency) is now implementing the installation of Outdoor Display at Tahrir Square in Cairo in cooperation with JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) under the REMIP (Regional Environmental Management Improvement Project). The purpose of the Display is to disseminate environmental messages/ information to the public as well as real-time air quality data monitored in Tahrir station and the air quality index.

This is the first experiment and challenge for EEAA to enhance the communication with the public through the Display. EEAA expects to increase public interest and attractiveness not only to the Display but to environment in Cairo or Egypt, through the participation of the public in the dissemination of environmental messages/ information.

 

Under such understandings, EEAA decided to offer an opportunity to display the works/ products applied from the public on the Tahrir Display.

Therefore, EEAA is announcing hereto the Contents Competition for the Tahrir Display.

Category of Competition

Category A:         School Students (12-18 years old inclusive)

Category B:         University Students (faculty of arts, engineer, and/or equivalent faculties), and Graphic Designers/Engineers, and general public (anyone interested)

 

Deadline of Submitting Products for Contents Competition

All applicants are requested to send in their work/ products of contents not later than the 21st  of November  by e-mail.

 

 

 

Address of Sending Products for Contents

 

All products should preferably be sent by e-mail or by file transfer services (e.g. YouSendit), and hard copies can be scanned and sent to the contact persons below. Alternatively, products can be sent by regular mail in a package or a CD to the address provided below.

(3)      Copyright of all products of contents submitted for this competition are to be held by EEAA. EEAA will also reserve all rights to adjust, modify, and revise any parts of products submitted to the competition.

(4) All products of contents applied for this competition shall not be returned to each applicant once EEAA receives.

5.2     Conditions of Competition for Category A for School Students

(1)      Type of Products: Painting/ drawing/ digital drawing with environmental slogan/message. Any hard material should be scanned and sent (preferably), or it can be sent by regular mail in a package or a CD.

(2)      Size: Equivalent to the LED screen ration of 2.67 (Width) : 1 (Height).

(3) Each applicant should only submit one product.

 

5.3     Conditions of Competition for Category B for University Students and Graphic Designers/ Engineers

(1)      Type of Products

There are two types in Category B competition as follows.

1)     Competition of environmental message/ information by using MS Power Point (PPT)

2)     Competition of environmental message/ information by using a movie making application (e.g. Movie Maker, or other).

(2)      Detailed Conditions

1)       In order to produce a clear picture, all applicants for the PPT show and/or the Silent Movie are requested to prepare the products of contents with consideration of the pixel resolution of the LED screen, 256 dots x 96 dots. Detailed imagery will not be clear.

2)       In case of the silent Movie or PPT movie/animation, all applicants should ensure that the production is viewable on PPT or Windows Media Player.

Awards:

 

All accepted work will be displayed on the screen. And their names will be posted on our webpage for acknowledgment. An excellent start for a network of environmentally responsible activists!

 

...And the top 9 winners of all categories will receive rewards ranging from 500 LE to 900 LE as well as displaying their work in the Opening Ceremony of the Display Screen and Air Quality Monitoring Station.

 

The top winners will be celebrated at the day of the Opening Ceremony of the Display at Tahrir Square, to be held in November 2008.

 

Conditions of Competition

5.1     General Conditions

(1)      This is a competition for environmental awareness, which should be the focus of the prepared content. Within this context, there are no limits to the topics. However, if it is directly related to health rather than environment (such as smoking or bird flue) this idea should be excluded.

(2)      The products of contents should be fitted to the Width-Height proportion of the LED screen in the Display.  The size of LED screen is 2.56 meter (Width) x 0.96 meter (Height). Therefore, all applicants should prepare products of contents (painting/ drawings, MS Power Point, and Silent Movie) to fit the size of LED screen in display, with the ratio of 2.67 (Width) : 1 (Height).
