Ministry of State for Environmental Affairs implemented 184 projects funded with total budget estimated with 168 million Danish Corona .These projects were including 81 projects aimed at serving the poorest areas in the governorates of Beni Suef, Aswan, Ismailia, Fayoum, Minya, Behaira and El-Wadi El-Gadid. This information was declared during a workshop organized by the Ministry in cooperation with the Danish International Development Agency "Danida" in the presence of Dr. Mawaheb Abou El-Azm, Chief Executive Officer, Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency and Kirsten Hoop, Danish Ambassador in Cairo.

Participants highlighted the fact that, implemented projects have contributed in controlling pollution in the poorest areas , as they were including projects for solid waste management, pollution control and public awareness activities.

Danida ESP program supported MSEA to establish the industrial component for the sake of applying cleaner production practices to help small and medium-seized enterprises to achieve compliance with environmental laws; in addition to coordination with the Egyptian Industries Federation to establish Environmental Compliance Office concerned with providing advisory services in the fields of environmental management and cleaner production. The Ministry carries out a comprehensive survey of 600 industrial enterprises and the preparation of feasibility and economical studies.

Environmental Sector Program "ESP" has helped to unify EEAA's procedures and working models with those applied in its branches, getting ISO 9001 according to ISO international standards, strengthen environmental staff in governorates. 30000 trainees participated in training programs, preparation of environmental description for 21 governorates and environmental plans for another 16 governorates; the ministry depended upon various ways to spread environmental awareness in various parts of Egypt, such as inventing a cartoon Egyptian character titled "Bezra", presenting cartoon films, periodical publications, manuals and promotional brochures. As well as raising public awareness among workers in different crafts and small industries polluting environment such as brick kilns and foundries.
