George received today Korean Minister of Environment to enhance environmental cooperation between the two countries

Eng. Maged George, Minister of State for Environmental Affairs, received today H.E. Mr. Mannee Lee, Korean Minister of Environment and a high-level delegation from Korean International Cooperation Agency, to discuss ways of enhancing cooperation between the two countries through activating Memorandum of Understanding signed between Egypt and Korea in 19th November, 2006.

The two sides discussed potential of cooperation in the field of rice straw recycling; Egypt has submitted a project to the Korean side in 2008, and a technical delegation from Korean International Cooperation Agency visited Egyptian Ministry of Environment to discuss implementation mechanism for Compressing and Recycling Rice Straw Project and its operational phase is expected to begin soon.

They consulted to enhance fields of cooperation and unify their views on climate change issue through a proposed project to support National Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change; The Korean minister will visit 15 May City landfill.

It is worth mentioning that Egypt had benefited from the Korean experience in the field of recycling hazardous waste through executing a project for recycling mercury waste in cooperation with the Korean International Cooperation Agency since 2007; in addition to production of bio-fuels from Jatropha plant through holding a strong partnership with a Korean private sector company, Tribute Energy, for planting 575 feddan of Jatropha plant in Abu Rawash.
