One of the components of the EIMP is the Coastal
Water Monitoring component. This component has developed EEAA
capacity to obtain and manage information about the pollution
of the coastal waters of Egypt, the coast of the Mediterranean
Sea, the Red Sea Region (the Gulf of Suez, the Red Sea and the
Gulf of Aqaba). This component involved the development of a
database at EEAA on the pollution of the coastal
waters.
The Component was
implemented through contracting with two selected institutions,
Institute of Graduate Studies and Research (IGSR)-Alexandria
University which responsible for monitoring the Mediterranean
coast and National Institute of Oaceanography and Fisheries
responsible for monitoring the Red Sea coast, respectively, to
carry out the monitoring activities and to report the results
to EEAA after processing and analyzing the collected data.
EIMP will continue developing the capacity of these selected
monitoring institutions to carry out the monitoring work,
including provision of necessary equipment, training and
initial supervision, and of quality control procedures.
The monitoring institutions will also participate in a
laboratory quality assurance Program supervised by an
independent reference laboratory, which is also being
established under the EIMP.
The Program Will continue
to monitor the pollutants in the coastal area to respond to
any changes in the water quality due to any human uses.
The Environmental Quality Sector of EEAA managed the EIMP
Coastal Water Monitoring Program. |
